Regular readers will have noted that there was no Whodunnit? episode on Keeping Stock yesterday. That's because there was so much going on in Labour with the canning of the Man-Ban, the leader's office in crisis, and last night, rumours circulating from WITHIN the Labour Party caucus of a no-confidence motion in David Shearer.
Given that the two-month grace period extended to Mr Shearer seems to be about to end prematurely and finally, finding the disloyal MP has lost its urgency. But we still have Mr Shearer's back, and we will redouble our efforts to identify those MP's who are now actively plotting his demise.
In our Whodunnit? series, we hadn't yet got as far as Andrew Little, but the word on the ground is that he is a pivotal person in this coup. Given that he would carry the union vote with him, he is very much a player. And oddly, our high Leaker Probability Rankings for Shane Jones and Clayton Cosgrove seem to have been right on the money; both are reported to be backing this coup.
There will doubtless be developments, denials and then more developments throughout today. Far from achieving Mr Shearer's stated aim yesterday of Labour talking about the things that matter to New Zealanders, people will be talking about chaos and dysfunction in the Labour Party. How could such a divided and divisive bunch possibly run a country?
