Top 25-watch

As we have blogged previously, we're keeping a close eye on the Web.com Tour money list. That's because there are currently three New Zealand golfers inside the Top 25 on the list, and the Top 25 get to play on the PGA Tour, golf's biggest and richest stage, in 2014.

Here's the Money List as it stands after this last week's event:

Tim Wilkinson, Danny Lee and Steven Alker all moved this week after the Midwest Classic, but unfortunately, they moved in the wrong direction. All dropped by once place; Wilkinson to 8th, Lee to 9th and Alker to 21st. Danny Lee missed the cut at the Midwest, and Wilkinson and Alker finished mid-field, where the riches aren't great; both won US$2433 for their week's work. On the same day, Mark Brown won US$24,641 for his T44th at the Open Championship at Muirfield. That gives you an idea of the gulf between the Web.com Tour and the Big Tour.

With nine tournaments to go in the season, Wilkinson and Lee would be unlucky to drop out of the Top 25. Steven Alker though needs at least one more strong finish, but he also needs to do better than the players below him on the list. At the moment he has a buffer of around $24,000 over Daniel Chopra at #25; that's a top five finish on any given week.

This week the Web.com Tour moves to Boise, Idaho for one of the richer events of the season. Here's hoping that all three Kiwi golfers have a strong week, and cement their places as they chase a slice of the big money available in golf's Holy Grail.
