We're rather partial to a pie on a cold winter's day. And when we feel like a pie, we often go to Butchart's Bakery in Gonville, Wanganui.
There's an even better reason to go to Butchart's now; the Herald has the results of the 2013 Bakels New Zealand Supreme Pie Awards held last night in Auckland, and it's official; while he didn't win the Supreme Award, Cameron Butchart makes the best Steak, Vegetable and Gravy pie in the land for which he won a Gold Award.
Butchart's is a Wanganui institution. Cameron is a fourth generation baker who took over the bakery from his father Don in 2011, and he has carried on the tradition of generous portions of tasty food at very reasonable prices; a sure recipe for bakery success.
We send our hearty congratulations to Cameron and his team. We won't get there to sample one of his Gold Medal pies today, but we will definitely be calling in very soon!
