Whodunnit? Part 3/34

David Parker is Labour's third-ranked MP, and the party's finance spokesman. When Phil Goff stood aside in the wake of Labour's disastrous 2011 General Election result, Parker initially put his hat in the ring to contest the leadership. However he decided that two Davids would be company and three Davids would be a crowd, so bailed out of the race fairly early in the piece.

David Shearer has already promised David Parker the role of Finance Minister if Labour leads a government some time in the future, even though Green co-leader Russel Norman covets the job. So there are two schools of thought at play here.

On one hand, David Parker is likely to be loyal to David Shearer, given that he is going to become the poor man's Bill English if Labour ever leads a government. But on the other hand, Parker may see that job slipping away if Labour's polling and Shearer's personal popularity does not improve.

On balance, we reckon that the former option is by far the more likely. We just don't think that David Parker is the leaking kind, so we've ranked him at 2/10 in the probability stakes.

Then again, no-one thought Peter Dunne had it in him either; hmmm....
