Emmerson on Labour Fashion Week

Regular readers will know that we are fans of Rod Emmerson's cartoons in the NZ Herald. And as we have noted before, he has a great ability to segue together two entirely unrelated but topical issues.

He's done just that this morning:

Whether or not the Shane Jones g-string is taking things a little beyond the bounds of good taste is in the eye of the beholder. We do presume however that Rod Emmerson drew this 'toon BEFORE Shane Jones made his unfortunate comments in Hamilton last night about John Key's nether regions, bungy cords and dead cat bounces. If that is the case, his foresight is as brilliant as his cartoons!

Whichever, we have no desire to watch Shane Jones model his undergarments (or any garments at all for that matter) at Fashion Week!

Emmerson on the Red Twerkers

Herald cartoonist Rod Emmerson's offering last week of the Three Amigos was very, very good. But he has excelled himself this morning as he has brought #Labour'sGotTalent right into the 21st century. 

We do however urge caution in viewing for those with delicate stomachs, especially when looking at the Twerker on the right!

This is a stellar piece from our favourite cartoonist. Here's hoping that the Three Twerkers are in Parliament this afternoon to bust out a move or two!

Emmerson on Norman, money and smoke (in that order)

Herald cartoonist Rod Emmerson quite correctly identifies the effect that LabourGreens' Political Party Initiated Referendum on asset sales (of which there aren't actually any happening!) will have:

Emmerson has got this bang on the money (if you'll pardon the pun). Having wasted hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars purchasing the required number of signatures, LabourGreen now want to waste another $9 million on a referendum which we've already had.

We spotted this wonderful Rod Emmerson cartoon whilst reading the Herald on our flight yesterday:

David Shearer may well, like Martin Luther King have had "a dream" when he took over the leadership of a dysfunctional Labour caucus. But little did he know that it would quickly become a recurring nightmare.

Emmerson and the Three Amigos

Rod Emmerson is in fine form this morning, with his portayal of Labour's Three Amigos. 

Whether Messrs Cunliffe, Robertson and Jones will be as flattered with the attention from our favourite cartoonist is, of course, another matter altogether!

And speaking of Shane Jones' fantasies; what lay behind the repeated references to the "Labour Mothership" when he was on RadioLive with Willie and JT yesterday? That, then the David Cunliffe presser was all a bit surreal.

Quote of the Day - 21 August 2013 (Part 2)

Here's the second part of our two-parter. We've blogged the Hansard of David Shearer's clanger during Question Time yesterday; Pete George blogs about the response:

By the looks on the faces of National’s whips seated behind Key when he was answering these questions it was a surprise revelation to them.
After the last answer there was some noise from the government benches, but most of the Labour mullets were in a stunned silence.
Silence too on the Green benches, where Russel Norman remained motionless slumped back in his seat, while Metiria Turei hunched forward. They must be hugely frustrated at remaining the junior party to Labour, and despair at the lack of political awareness and competence of their presumed coalition partner.

Hell hath no fury like a Green co-leader scorned. It's little wonder that Green MP's were openly mocking Shearer's snapper stunt later in the day.

The political marriage of equality that Rod Emmerson portrayed in cartoon form yesterday morning hasn't lasted long. We suspect that the service of divorce papers is imminent!

One of the reasons that we enjoy Herald cartoonist Rod Emmerson's cartoons is his ability to segue unrelated but topical issues together to humourous effect. 

He's done that again this morning with this offering:

The LabourGreen marriage is all about political convenience, with very little equality. We reckon that it will end in tears, and as likely as not a messy, acrimonious divorce.

Emmerson labours through the night

Aftershocks continued throughout the day yesterday after Sunday's earthquake near Seddon. And just before 7pm last night, it was announced that Kate Middleton was in the early stages of labour.

So Herald cartoonist Rod Emmerson must have worked overtime to produce this gem:

Emmerson on one-boat races

One of the things we really enjoy about Herald cartoonist Rod Emmerson's work is his ability to segue two completely unrelated subjects together into an amusing cartoon.

And Emmerson is in fine form this morning:

The only question posed by this cartoon is this; which America's Cup time is synonymous with the Labour Party? Is it Artemis, struggling to rebuild a damaged boat after a tragic capsize, or is it Luna Rossa, sitting races out because they don't agree with the referee?

We'll let you be the judge of that.

Emmerson on the Man-Ban

It's hardly a surprise that our favourite cartoonist Rod Emmerson has waded in on Labour's proposed Man-Ban; it's nothing more than Labour deserves:

Someone in Labour has to shut this daft idea down, and do it very quickly. Labour's ineptitude kept the SkyCity corporate box debacle going for a week longer than it ought to have. But there is far more mileage for critics of the Labour Party on this daft proposal.

In the meantime, all the ducking, diving and weaving by Labour MP's (and the left-wing blogs) is providing fantastic entertainment. Long may it continue!

Emmerson on walls with writing on them

Dr Pita Sharples can clearly see the writing on the wall, as evidenced by confirmation this morning that he is leaving Parliament after next year's election. He will join his fellow Maori Party co-leader Tariana Turia on the sidelines.

This is great stuff from our favourite cartoonist, and we can't help but wonder if it is prophetic, given the fate that befell Julia Gillard just 36 hours ago. And what is Mr Shearer knitting; a stab-proof vest, made of steel wool?

Herald cartoonist Rod Emmerson is back, and he is in fine fettle with this morning's offering:

We guess that Rod Emmerson has heard all the talk over David Shearer's invisibility. But this cartoon, doubtless prompted by Shearer's slump in the preferred Prime Minister ratings will do nothing to quell speculation over his future as Labour's leader.

We're not sure where Rod Emmerson has been these last couple of weeks, but if he's taken a holiday, it has certainly sharpened both his mind and his pens with this portrayal of Winston "Luigi" Peters:

The Nodfather indeed. Here's hoping that the Feds catch up with this dangerous Mob leader before November 2014. They will be doing the country a service if they make him an offer he can't refuse!
