UPDATED: Tweet of the Day (ALP special) - 30 June 2013

UPDATE #3: Kevin Rudd wins the ALP leadership spill by 57 votes to 45. The Julia Gillard era ends. This has been an intriguing night, about which we'll have more comment tomorrow.

UPDATE #2: Gillard loyalist Bill Shorten has just dropped a huge bombshell and announced that he is supporting Kevin Rudd; Sky News comment is "That is a big nail in the coffin of Julia Gillard"

UPDATE: Julia Gillard has forced Kevin Rudd's hand, and the ballot will be held tonight at 9pm (NZ time). Kevin Rudd has confirmed that he he is a candidate; he is just speaking now. Both he and Julia Gillard have given a commitment to resign as an MP at the election if they lose tonight's ballot.

Australian Federal politics have suddenly got very interesting. Apparently, the signatures of 34% of Julia Gillard's caucus are required, but it sounds that there may be a ballot at 9am tomorrow morning (AEST time).

The game is on.
