Sportsfreak has some of the numbers:
The sign is in place now and is visible to passengers sitting on the left hand side of planes as they land in Melbourne. This includes players from both sides who flew into Melbourne following that Test in Brisbane last Saturday night.
From the Fact DepartmentWorld Record Number 1 – “largest painting”.
The painting is 170m wide by 90m tall, or 15,030 square metres. The previous best is 11,965.7 square metres, achieved by the Turkish Ministry of Youth and Sports in Istanbul on 17 May 2013.
World Record Number 2 – “largest hashtag”.
The hashtag is 71 metres wide by 8 metres tall, or 568 square metres. It is more than double the size of the previous best.
The previous best is on an airship, with the hashtag measuring 128 feet by 22 feet. This equates to 39 metres by 6.7 metres, or 261.3 square metres. This was achieved by Airship Ventures, owners of the airship Eureka, in San Francisco on 17 July 2012.
Paint
2,500 litres of non-toxic paint was used.
Approximately one-million people will fly over the image in the next month.
It's quite a remarkable job, even if you don't agree with the sentiment. The Lions Tour is the hottest ticket in Australia right at the moment with thousands of red-shirted supporters following the team around.
And we guess that, some time around midnight on Saturday night, when the second test ends we'll know whether the rooting has been effective!
